Hello everybody! Here's what's on board for this week:

Hollis Taylor has created a fascinating body of work called Infidel comprised of traditional hoedowns and Texas fiddle tunes. She and collaborator Jon Rose take these traditional pieces and put them in VERY non-traditional environments. A fascinating study!

The Bridies are also in the business of making a new take on traditional music. With traditional Irish fiddle stylings, The Bridies explore blues, bebop, swing, and a host of other styles. Flamboyant and energetic, these ladies are a lot of fun

Tim Kliphaus is a Dutch violinist who explores all manner of jazz. His latest disc Swingin' the Classics finds him and his band taking many famous classical movements and adapting them into swing. The piece featured here is the 2nd movement of Mozart's Clarinet Concerto

Violinist Betty Widerski is a guest artist on this tune by pianist Sharon Crumrine. She is a freelance session player in the Boston area and has played with numerous bands and artists there. She is an accomplished classical violinist who also explores improv, rock, jazz. She's all over.

Thanks for listening - take care everybody!

Hi folks. It's been awhile but I'm back. Fact is, I've been going thru a lot lately. But that's all over. Let's get busy.

Notable on this show is the string quartet Invert - an innovative group with two cellists instead of two violins. These guys are a lot of fun and I'm sure you'll enjoy them. Two more "classical" oriented works this time with both Nicole Randall's composition and La Catrina String Quartet. A very eclectic show with disparate styles throughout -- just what you've come to expect from a Bowed Radio program.

There are two special guests on this show - one being my daughter Allison. Hopefully I can live vicariously thru her by getting her some violin lessons. Allison and I recorded the intro to this show at Ray's Place in Kent, Ohio - featuring some of the finest food you're likely to find.

The other guest on the show is the infamous madfiddler, host and moderator of the Fiddle and Alternative Strings Forum .

Goddamn it's good to be back. Thank you everyone. You're the best!

Hosted by violinist Jon Rose

I am very pleased to present some of my absolute favorite performers - notably Paul Giger and Mark Feldman - appearing on this program for the first time. I had been hoping to get each of these guys on since Day 1 - and now, with perserverence, some mangled German emails, and basic gumshoe detective work, here they are. And if that weren't enough, another of my favorite players - Jon Rose - is this episode's guest host/peanut gallery. He brings to this episode an Aeolian fence, a lesson in British naval history, and a fairly weak John Lennon impersonation.

Paul Giger, in my opinion, is about the most amazing player I have ever heard. His most recent recordings Vindonissa and Ignis spotlight his compositional prowess. But if you really want to hear him show off, check out Schattenwelt or Chartres - both on ECM.

I first heard Mark Feldman & Sylvie Courvoisier in 1999 with their amazing recording Music For Violin and Piano. These two play like they are dancing together - perfectly in step - with a sound that goes from dolcissimo to torto scheggiato in less than five seconds. I had a bit of a struggle picking a track for these two - whether to feature their wilder, more chaotic sound or their sweeter, prettier sound. I went with "pretty" for this program, but be careful when you pick up the disc -- it's a wild ride.

I have had numerous requests from listeners for some good quality string jazz - and was able to find some in Rob Thomas - presented here with a fun rendition of Thelonious Monk's "Four In One". More jazz to come...

This also is the first episode where I feature traditional music - in this case traditional Irish polkas and jigs from Milwaukee's athas (note the au-courrant small á). I've actually been hunting for traditional Irish fiddle tunes from real Irish people in Ireland for some time. Most of them apparently don't check their email all that often. More traditional fiddle to come (though not the traditional traditional fiddle you might be thinking of...)

Thanks for listening!
